Calling on organizations to invest in COVID-19 recovery and create a pipeline of public health leaders
AmeriCorps recently launched Public Health AmeriCorps, a new partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support the recruitment, training, and development of a new generation of public health leaders who will be ready to respond to the nation’s public health needs.
Public Health AmeriCorps will help vulnerable communities recover from COVID-19 and address broader public health needs. This exciting new partnership builds upon the expertise, best practices, and lessons learned from both existing AmeriCorps and CDC programs to support communities and also provide much-needed surge capacity for state and local public health agencies that continue to bear the burden of caring for a nation in crisis.
AmeriCorps members will serve in support of in state, local, Tribal, and territorial public health agencies. Public Health AmeriCorps goals include:
Help meet public health needs of local communities by providing needed capacity and support in state and local public health settings and advancing more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities.
Provide pathways to high quality public health-related careers through onsite experience and training, with a focus on recruiting AmeriCorps members who reflect the communities in which they will serve.

AmeriCorps published the notice of federal funding availability for Public Health AmeriCorps through AmeriCorps’ State and National program.
Who can apply?
The competition is open to nonprofit, faith-based and community-based organizations; higher-education institutions; state, local and territorial government entities, such as cities or counties; and Indian Tribes. Organizations that are new to AmeriCorps are encouraged to apply for these grants.
When is the deadline to submit an application?
Potential applicant organizations are encouraged to fully review the information posted on AmeriCorps funding opportunities webpage. The deadline for applications is Monday, Nov 8, at 5 p.m. ET.
